Pet Appreciation Post – IMOGEN ANECDOTE

My current author bio states:

Imogen Knowed is a queer, AuDHD girly who hyperfocuses on creating fake people in her head. Instead of letting them stay in there, she writes them down for others to meet. She spends her days programming video games and her nights reading and writing romance. When she’s not writing romance or making video games, she’s hanging out with her family and pets (aka her “pack”).

So, let me introduce my pets!

Nami Swan
Nami Swan (named after the English-dubbed One Piece character when Sanji is flirting with her) is the oldest. She’s 11, insists on being spooned all night, and is the most obnoxious. She has serious mommy issues and they all get directed at me.

She recently was the only cat in fucking history to get diabetes from losing weight. She was on steroids for only a few weeks and, medical marvel that she is, got diabetes after a short time.  I’m not directly quote her vet, but it was all quite UNPRECEDENTED!

Anyway, here she is with her made-for-humans insulin monitoring device proving that even girlies with life-threatening illnesses can perform acrobatics in honor of smut.

Nami’s better now and no longer needs the monitor, but she still has a bald spot 😅

Mona Persona 5

Next is Mona Persona 5 (yes, that’s her full name). She’s 9 and is the little-kitty-embodiment of anxiety.

She is really fucking smart and must have some elephant in her ancestry because bitch never forgets anything. Seriously. NEVER. I once wore a shirt to take her to the vet and, while I forget what shirt it was, she hasn’t…she reminds me every time I put it on by running away from me.

She also has OCD and can count! Every time she enters a room she must perform the following ritual exactly 5 times: walk to the opposite corner, stand on her hinds to tap it, look behind herself in a way that makes it look like she will perform a back flip, not back flip, but back track to the room’s entrance.

Her anxiety makes her not particularly cuddly. But she will not eat unless you pet her. She screams at us to follow her to the bowl and we oblige because 1) she’s fucking insistent, 2) she’s gotta eat, and 3) we don’t really get to pet her otherwise. Occasionally, though, she will very insistently get on my or my husband’s laps, but ONLY if we are on our laptops.

She did enjoy listening to the live stream of the Whispers, Whiskers, & Wine audiobook and was really taken by Shiloh’s voice.

She keeps her distance mostly, but she’s very loving. She brings me stuffed animals and random trash all night and I wake every morning to a ton on junk scattered around the house. Little gifts, just for me 🥰 She also does it whenever I leave. Like the time she found this smutty print for Dates and Dead Bodies and left it at the door for me to find when I got back from my walk 😅 So thoughtful.

So, she’s the reason I had to find a good storage system for my smutty prints 😂

Kyo Sohma

Yeah, all my pets are named after anime and video game characters. And this handsome boy is no exception. Kyo is 7 and the cat version of a fuck boy.

He’s also who I loosely based Ezra from Whispers, Whispers, & Wine on.

He’s extremely handsome and knows it. He also knows you know it. He also will get really pissed off at you if you don’t act as if you know it. If you’re not interested in cuddling him when he wants cuddles, well, that’s a you problem.

I would call him a “dubious consent kitty,” if he weren’t so incredibly sweet. I’m autistic and have trouble reading my body often. But Kyo knows I’m upset before I do. It took me a while to realize the pattern, but whenever my heart starts racing and I’m verging on a panic attack or meltdown, he’s right there, in my lap, pressing his nose to my throat.

Nami and Kyo are with me often and sit with me when I write. Or stealing my chair completely if I choose to get up.

However, Kyo does spend a lot of time with my daughter now that I have…

Doggy D. Luffy

Luffy is a 5 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and is obsessed with me. We’re not really dog people. We’re cat people (hence the 3 cats). But during the pandemic we wanted a dog. I googled “chillest dog” and the search cinched it for me.

He’s lived up to the Google-search-hype and is basically a dog-shaped throw pillow.

Here he is scandalized as I wrote some smut.

I based Watson from Dates and Dead Bodies after him, but he helps me with my writing it other ways.

And now it’s time for a photo dumb of pictures of my babies with me while I write or with my books.
